So January has come and gone, and I thought I might reflect a little on January and my 101 in 1001 list. I started my 101 in 1001 on January 1st 2010, and I have made some progress with the list.
I managed to sneak out of my afraid-to-try-a-new-hairstyle bubble and got myself bangs, which I don’t regret getting! It takes me a little more time in the morning to get my hair done, but it’s worth it. And if I feel like not having bangs one day I can simply push them to the side.
I started on lists about things about me and things that I am happy/thankful for, and I FINALLY got a full time job!
And even better, the job was in the field I wanted to work in, yay!
I can’t describe how happy I am to have gotten this job. The people here are awesome! They’re really nice, and they don’t mind teaching me things, and they answer my questions as best as possible. Hopefully I’ll get out of that small discomfort of not knowing how the entire system works (a lot of new code to learn!) soon! The pay is good, the distance I have to travel is short (about 10 minutes with the subway, and… 3-4 minutes of walking from the station to the office), a cool boss who isn’t a very from-top-to-bottom leader, … all in all a great workplace!
I have also tried to say yes on more occasions, and this recently got me involved in a Norwegian convention regarding Japan, fantasy and sci-fi. I am on the art crew, helping out with the website!
I’m also usually in bed before midnight (#35), because lately I have been so tired that I want to go to sleep right away!
I thought I would get a chance to begin on my Korean studies, but time has flown by and I haven’t had a chance to catch up! I did however order a learn Korean DVD from KoreanClass101.Com, I just haven’t had a chance to open it yet!
Stumbling upon this post, or even if you’ve been reading my blog for a little while, you might wonder why I have learning Korean and Thai on my 101 in 1001 list. I’ve always loved language study, and I’ve usually been good at it ever since I was a kid. I learned English pretty quickly, and I took French in high school (although, sadly I don’t remember much of it now, even if I had it for 5 years
).
I want to learn some basic tourist Thai because my best friend is Thai, and her family lives in Thailand. Almost every summer we go visit them, and it would be fun to be able to converse more with them. Her mother and father understand and speak some Norwegian, but her aunts and uncle don’t. And simply knowing some simple phrases in Thai can get you a long way, not just for directions and things like that, but also helping you get closer with the Thai people! And if you speak a little Thai, they might even give you a better deal!
As for Korean, for the moment I don’t have anyone in my [real life] circle who speak Korean, but I want to visit Korea some day, and it would be nice to know just some simple phrases
Plans for February
Depending on the weather I might get to do a little more outside things, but I plan to do #70 and #71 soon!
70. Open a retirement pension account and start saving (eligible once I get a [full-time] job).
71. Start saving for my own apartment (eligible once I get a [full-time] job).
Now that I have a full time job I’ll be able to start putting aside some money. I do have a retirement plan with my company, but they say it’s wise to invest on the side, — so that you’ll be able to live the good life in your golden days.
I don’t think that’s too bad for January!
Your goal should be out of reach but not out of sight.

How about you? Have you set yourself a goal lately, and perhaps achieved it?
I was wondering why Korean was on the list. My goal is to resume Korean Language training tomorrow. I hope to get through all of Level 1 Rosetta Stone by the time my contract ends in June. I should already be done with it… but I’ve let my studies go these past few months with Jo being here and the Winter Intensives. But I aim to get back on the horse!!!!

I also have Mandarin on my list, but Korean should be a bit simpler. At least the pronunciation, as it’s not a tonal language like Chinese.
It’s easy to get caught up in something else if you’re not strict and make language study a routine. You have one advantage (over me), you’re in the country where they speak the language you’re trying to learn!
Keep at it!
Gratulerer med ny jobb!! ^_^
Og, så fort tiden går! Vi er liksom midtveis i februar allerede. Plutselig er vi 50 år. Det er skremmende!
Tusen takk!
Ja, tiden går kjempefort! Her om dagen var det mandag, og nå er det snart helg allerede! :S Er viktig å nyte øyeblikkene når man kan, for som du sier, vips så er vi 50 og skal snart pensjonere oss!
Wow, that sounds awesome. And you’ve reminded me to be serious about studying a new language. Right now Mandarin has been clamoring for my attention, so I think I’d put aside my Japanese plans

Starting Mandarin is quite a challenge!
But I wish you the best
So February is all about saving money, huh?
It shouldn’t be too hard considering you work, eat and sleep most of the time :p
Good luck on that and hope to see you around (online) sometimes soon!

Yeah, I want to save up money to travel to Japan this summer! Hopefully I can get the vacation time, and have the money for at least three weeks there.
Haha, yeah, I feel like all I do is work, eat and sleep
lol. Then I squeeze in a little time for friends and NS
I too hope to be a bit more online soon!
