Haunted Mansion

London 2006Travel Memories — England

I once went to England with a friend of mine, and the trip itself was awesome. However, when we were going home and to the airport, it all went to hell. We had miscalculated the time it would take to get us to the airport, and the hotel concierge said we needed to go to this-and-this place to take a bus to the airport. All right, no problem — we thought.  On the bus there was a digital clock, and at first we thought, this can’t be right. And then we realized we were never going to make that plane home :P

When we arrived at the airport, we talked to the airline, and we thought we would have to pay for a new ticket and all, since we’d arrived late. But to our surprise, we only had to pay half! Since we were late, they could give our seats to someone else, so we only paid half of what we paid for the original tickets. BUT! There were no available seats for the remainder of the day to Oslo, meaning, we had to spend another night in England. Luckily, we had master cards and available credit on it :P That was one of those times when having a master card is a life saver!

We didn’t want to travel all the way into London again, so we opted for an hotel that was close to the airport. We went by the hotel counter at the airport and asked for a cheap hotel nearby. The guy behind the counter gave us two options; Hilton hotel 5 minutes away from the hotel, or an old mansion about 30 minutes away. And he also said that the mansion was haunted! The price was the same for the both of them, even though one was Hilton and the other an unknown mansion turned into a hotel. We of course, opted for the haunted mansion, duh! We even got taxi vouchers included, and a reserved taxi that would come pick us up the next day!

It was a really neat place to stay, as there were all these old furnitures, huge chandeliers (like the one in the photo above), lounges and just a lot of cool paintings on the walls to look at. As for it being haunted, who knows. They said that the original owner of the mansion back in it’s glory days walked the halls there, but we didn’t notice anything. I did however wake up once during the night by a loud weird sound, but once I came to my senses I realised it was just the toilet in the room above us flushing :P

The place is called Down Hall (I luckily snapped a shot with the name of the country house in it), and according to the website, it dates back to 1322!

Have you ever stayed in a haunted place?
